GPwER Lipid Management

Job Description: 

The Devon Training Hub are looking for an experienced GPwER (Lipid speciality) to provide clinical leadership to support the Devon Lipid Service with Lipid Management and familial hypercholestrolaemia in Primary Care, for approximately 2 sessions a week.

The project is running until the end of March 2024, supported by the SW Academic Health Science Network (South West AHSN)

The project aims to:

Support the Devon Lipid Service to improve the outcomes for people with CVD by:

  • Providing education and practical support to Primary Care to increase knowledge and confidence to implement the NHS National guidance for lipid management pathway
  • Support primary care towards detection and management of FH.
  • Work with the Devon Lipid Service Re-design team to develop and implement educational tools and resources and delivery educations session to support Primary Care in managing hyperlipidaemia.
  • Working with the lipid and FH services to develop pathways of care and new ways of working.

The postholder(s) will work for the most part on-line and may be required to travel in the county to work with GP practices.

Training and Development

  • Assist with the induction of new staff, both administrative and clinical with regard to Departmental Policies, procedures and IT Systems.

  • The post-holder will be required to attend training courses, including mandatory courses, which will be identified as part of his/her PDP.
  • To contribute positively to team meetings, bringing relevant issues to the meeting, assisting with the development of the service and assisting with projects identified by the teams.

Risk Management

In Accordance with the Risk Management Policy, employees will participate, whenever required,
with the risk management process. They will support line managers by attending mandatory and
statutory training, completing incident/accident forms for every adverse event or near miss that occurs, report all defects and complaints, and communicate any dangerous situation to individuals potentially at risk.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

  • Qualified GPs, or GPs due to complete training by early 2023
  • Keen to learn and develop their skills and knowledge in lipid management
  • Collaborative individuals who want to be part of a wider network of GPwER sharing ideas and innovation across the region
  • Comfortable supplementing their clinic experience through self-directed learning
  • Enthusiastic and forward-thinking GPs
